When a Story Changes the Room
I’ve noticed something over the last few months. A room can feel one way when you walk in — busy, polite, a bit guarded — and then someone shares something real, and the whole atmosphere shifts.
It’s subtle. People look up. Someone softens. Someone else nods because they recognise themselves in what’s being said.
It’s not the “big story” that changes things. It’s the honesty. The permission it gives everyone else to stop performing for a moment.
When that happens, wellbeing stops being something we talk about and becomes something we actually feel together. And once a team has felt that, even just once, something in the culture starts to move.
